HBCU Prep School is a publishing and education company that publishes and distributes content that unapologetically celebrates the Black experience.
Far too often, children only learn about important African-American icons during Black History Month.
According to a 2014 report by the Southern Poverty Law Center, 85 percent of states failed to accurately teach about the civil rights movement. In addition, when Black history is taught, it’s often reduced to slavery and segregation.
To fill this gap and broaden the narrative, Claudia Walker launched The HBCU Prep School.
As a mother, teacher, and proud graduate of Spelman College, Claudia understands the importance of literacy, education, and representation.
HBCUs attract the best and brightest students from all over the world. Yet, like many HBCU students, Claudia admits that it wasn’t until she attended Spelman that she began to understand the fullness of Black history.
Inspired by her experiences as a student and teacher, Claudia launched The HBCU Prep School to bring rich, empowering, and authentic stories of the Black experience into homes and classrooms everywhere.
Her debut book, The ABCs of HBCUs, will be released in December.
