In case you missed it, I'm so excited to share the cover of my 3rd children's book series, The ABCs of Cybersecurity.
Illustrated by Dissirama Laurencia and co-authored by 14 year-old daughter, this book has been an absolute labor of love.
When I was approached about writing this book back in February, I felt like the topic wasn't really aligned with the HBCU Prep School brand, but boy was I wrong! While researching and partnering with orgs like Black Girls in Cyber and #ShareTheMicInCyber, I realized a few things:
- If your child has access to technology, cybercriminals have access to them.
- Children have become prime targets of cybercriminals and Black and BIPOC communities are more likely to be impacted by cybercrime.
- The same way we teach children how to cross the street safely or drive a car is the way we have to teach them about protecting their personal privacy while online.
- Although there are almost 1 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs, Black folks make up only 9% of the profession.
The ABCs of Cybersecurity aims to reverse that by introducing children to the fascinating world of digital security. From A to Z, readers learn the importance of digital citizenship and how to protect their personal information, while also exploring exciting careers in cybersecurity.
The ABCs of Cybersecurity launches in January 2024 and preorders will open in November.
Stay tuned for more updates.
